Sam Soko judges for Whickers Awards

Events  /  21st November 2024

The Whickers Awards winners have just been announced this month and we’re proud to have played a part in celebrating the next generation of filmmakers through LBx Africa Creative Producer/Director, Sam Soko.

Soko was part of an incredible panel of judges that included Keisha Knight from IDA, Olivier Tournaud from CinePhil, Raul Niño Zambrano from Sheffield DocFest, Jo Lapping from Storyville, and Jane Mote from Whickers Awards.

The jury selected Zahraa Ghandour as the Film & TV Funding Award winner. The same prize that No Simple Way Home, Directed by Akuol de Mabior and Produced by Sam Soko won in 2020.

The £20,000 Film and TV Development Award went to I WANT TO KILL MY GRANDFATHER (LILYANA TORRES AND CARLOS MORALES)

This is what Judge Sam Soko had to say of I Want To Kill My Grandfather

“How Lilyana opened up about her healing process really swayed me. I want to see how she transforms and this story has all the ingredients for that. Lilyana is a really strong director who has a great potential ahead of her and a very clear plan for the story she wants to tell”.

All the best to all the winners! We look forward to the release and success of the films.
